Perpendicular to dirrection angular velocity ( spin) helps with stabilisation. When something rotates the most relaxed point is in center and all mechanical interactions want to reach the most relaxed point (which in the end is a rest velocity). So when object meets anything that truea to change its direction and move center point away, the angular velocity is consumed first to fight this change.

That became a huge turning point in warfare. When guns shot bullets without added spin their accuracy and range was very limited.

Conservation of angular momentum (I think). Here’s the best example I can think of – [Veritasium](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeyDf4ooPdo).

The point is that the spin gives it a crazy amount of stability.
