[ELI5] Why are battery capacities expressed in Ah (Amperes-hour) and what does it mean, for example, a AA battery that is 2500 mAh?

Amphours is NOT the capacity. That’s watthours. With amphours the voltage is missing. It’s like describing the capacity of a bottle by mentioning its area only, but not its height. Capacity is the volume of a bottle, not its area.
