ELi5: Why are humans rather obsessed with having most of things set to an even number? It’s almost an internal crime to set the volume on the TV to 19 instead of 20, or set the brightness to 59 instead of 60.

It’s because we’re hardwired to recognise and remember patterns and even numbers tend to be more easily remembered as you visionise it as a pattern.
