It may seem dumb to ask, but seagulls are literally everywhere! And yet they have sea in their name! They should be called landgulls

They’re actually just called “gulls”, for example see EN names for different gull species. Why do people colloquially called seagulls? No idea, I think it’s perhaps clearer and with less chance of misunderstanding? Sounds better? Who knows.
