Temperature control. Sperm is sensitive to temperature, so being too hot or too cold will affect sperm production and health. That’s why your testes will shrivel up when cold, and hang lower when hot.

They don’t teach this in school anymore?

Sperm production requires cool temperatures. It really is as simple as that.

Mammals evolved that way, for whatever reason, so we get vulnerable testicles hanging out in the wind.

I had mine disconnected 35 years ago. Best thing I ever did. Takes the worry out of being close. I cannot recommend vasectomy strongly enough.

Temperature control. The inside of a human body is too warm for sperm to thrive. However, when temperature drops, it can become too cold also, which is why your “ballsack” shrinks in cold temperature.
