eli5 Why are the largest animals aquatic mammals?

I get that water helps support the whales giant weight but why did no fish become so large? Is it just a coincidence or is there something about being a mammal that helps it be large?

Err i think the ability to control their own body temperature allows them to exploit more habitats than other climate/temperature dependent organisms.

Not 100% sure on that though.
