Eli5 why are there so many languages if we all came Crome the same place why didn’t we just keep using the same language?

The easiest way to understand it is to look at your local slang terms.
One popular one here in the US is some regions call coke/pepsi/mtdew..etc, pop. Some call it soda. I’ve even heard of places that call everything Coke, and if you ask for a coke at a restaurant, they’ll ask you what kind(and not mean flavor).
So with something like this, with local slang terms, if you’re isolated from other people, like say back when you had to walk everywhere, you will develop a language that is different from other isolated peoples over a period of time.
