Eli5: Why are there so many squirrels in cities?

I get why cities support crows, rats, raccoons, and other animals that eat our garbage, but squirrels don’t. What do cities offer squirrels?

A city provides a smorgasbord of hiding places for both their food caches and their sleeping spaces.

Ever find a random pizza crust on your porch in a corner? Or my favorite was finding 2 walnuts on the kickstand of my bike.. That’s squirrels hiding food from other animals
