Eli5: Why are they called wisdom teeth?

They are called wisdom teeth because they come out when you’re older, and thus “wise.” Milk teeth are called that because they come in while a baby is nursing.
Fun fact, in Japanese they are called “親知らず🦷” which translates literally to “what your parents don’t know”.
