What medium? I can get the New York Times outside of the NY area, but it’ll still likely have some NY specific advertisements.
On cable TV I saw a Carl’s Junior ad in my market thst is >1000 miles from their nearest location. They presumably felt that the extra cost of a single national ad was worth the simpler process of running a single ad everywhere rsther than dozens of regional ads.
There comes a point where it’s effective to run national ad buys even if not in every market. If a fast food chain in 3/4 of country wants to run an ad during the Super Bowl or NCAA tournament, it’s their money to spend, even if 1/4 of viewers aren’t in their markets. But it can also help build awareness for future expansion…
