Most people go to bed because it’s time to do it, most people lie down on their couch because they are tired and sleepy

What’re you doing on the sofa? Are you watching TV?

I seriously struggled to sleep for about 10 years in my teens, and it was only after I started putting on YouTube videos on my phone, akin to my dad putting on a Superman video on when I was a child, could I fall asleep quick again. Maybe you have that too, the TV helps you relax and you drift off without noticing.

You sleep on the sofa BECAUSE you suddently fell asleep while already being on the sofa. Not the contrary.

You sleep on the bed because you intend to go to sleep, which may not happen suddently. It is therefore common to go on your bed and not fall asleep.

My personal experience to this is not about couch or bed but the atmosphere your mind is in.

I notice noise makes me actually sleep. My mind doesn’t overload me with a bunch of stuff when I am trying to relax my mind and body.

Because this is likely your own personal experience and not something that holds true for everyone.

For me, if I’m not flat out exhausted, laying in bed adds the pressure of having to fall asleep. When I’m on the couch I’m relaxing watching something, my main objective isn’t to go to sleep so I don’t have that on my mind.
