Lack of dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is the natural chemical that provides a sense of happiness, and euphoria. You know when you fall in love? That’s dopamine.
Anywho, sufferers of add or adhd aren’t able to hold dopamine in the brain for long periods of time. This leaves you feeling “bored” for lack of a better word. So, the best bet to keep everything going is to switch tasks, and try to find interest in a change of pace.
Many of the drugs that combat the illness are dopamine uptake inhibitors, meaning they allow dopamine to be produced and held onto for longer periods of time. So, you wind up with a euphoric feeling, even while doing menial tasks for long periods of time. You literally feel like you’re falling in love while doing crappy stuff like studying.
