According to the articles Wikipedia cites, only about 20% of women report experiencing any midcycle pain, so it sounds like you’re in the unlucky minority. Midcycle pain has a lot of different causes, all with different timelines relative to ovulation, so it’s not considered a reliable method of detection.

There is no single sign or symptom that can definitively tell you when you are ovulating

We could, but walking around with an ultrasound machine or whatever strapped to you for couple days would be uncomfortable.
