That’s easy. Because if school started later they would just sleep through the day and not let me sleep at night.

I’m not the type of person who goes to bed at 6, but I don’t want to be awake at midnight either.

Depends on circumstances, but usually it’s to get started before it gets hot. Also, you’ve no idea the amount of paperwork and prep many companies have to go through before they do anything. Nice to knock that out before daylight. In industries like refining that are 24/7, it gets workers off of peak traffic hours so timely relief can be made.

This isn’t so widely applicable, but industrial projects often have long hours, so there is no room on the clock not to start early. New construction often gets behind and management wants to play catch-up, and if it’s a maintenance outage, the unit ain’t making ridiculous money if it’s not running. For instance, I’m currently working 12.5 hours per day, every other Sunday off. I shouldn’t even be typing this right now.

Many permits that involve shoulder work or lane closures have time windows of 8:30 to 15:30. In order to begin at 08:30, crews need to start mobilizing, moving equipment, and getting materials starting at 06:30 or earlier.

Nice to have some hours before it is bloody hot, and industry starts before offices to avoid everybody on the same time on the road which would make the road system collapse completely.
