I don’t know the biology of it specifically. But from an evolutionary standpoint humans went through a period where our brain began taking up more and more of the time and resources of pregnancy. And because a 2-3 year pregnancy is impractical babies evolved to be underdeveloped in basically every single way that adult humans could find a way compensate for. That’s why when we’re born we can’t walk, we can barely see, and we don’t even have the muscle necessary burp ourselves (or bring wind up as you say).
