Eli5 Why do birds have such twitchy movement?

Compared to mammals, birds seem to have this jerky, almost robotic quality to the way they move. I was wondering if there’s any explanation for this

Have you ever watched a movie in fast forward? Have you noticed that humans in fast forward move similarly to birds? Birds exist in their own fourth dimension (time). If we could tap into it, we could significantly increase our travel speeds. Bird Time could hold the answer to faster than light travel. Or so I posit. All the previous answers are likely what you came here for.
