eli5: why do colors outside look so much more saturated right before tornadoes?

The storm clouds that bring the tornado have the effect of diffusing the light. There are less shadows and much less glare allowing your eyes to open their irises more allowing in more light. It allows you to see more clearly and brings colours out more.
