eli5, why do deer run at the slightest sound or movement, but just stand there and stare when a car is coming towards them at full speed?

I live in an area with a lot of deer. I never have seen one standing in the road looking at a car. After driving here for 20 years and seeing / missing a hundred deer I unfortunately finally hit one. It was running full tilt and came out of the wood line like it was shot out of a cannon. Broad daylight and I didn’t see it until one second before I hit it.
