Eli5 Why do dislocations hurt

Might be a dumb question, but how do dislocations hurt? I don’t think they are connected to the socket so I’m just kind of lost.

Well the main reason is that all the tissues around the joint which used to hold the thing in places are now stretched or pinched by a bone that is not supposed to be there. That’s were most of the pain comes from. It’s also why putting it back gives you near instant relief.

There are still nerves lining the bones/tissues on the joint but mostly those are fine except the ones taking the bulk of pressure from wherever the end ends up instead of resting with even pressure against a nice squishy joint capsule.

There’s some other types of damage of course that keep the thing sore after. The tissues keeping the thing in place normally just got stretched well beyond where they were meant to and also have nerves in them. Or possibly a nerve or blood vessel got severely pinched.
