eli5: Why do humans have a flight, fight, and freeze response?

I feel like most animal species only have one, like possums playing dead, but humans have all three and it depends person to person which one they gravitate towards.

For one thing, they dont have just one. They have all three too, but they only use one at a time. Humans are pack animals. In packs, it’s more advantageous to use as many strategies as possible, since one of them will always work.
