Eli5: Why do humans have a sort of “Stutter” when crying?

If I’m not mistaken, it’s because we’re trying to do the AAAAAAAAAA part the entire time. Breathing and yelling do not work together at the same time. I could be wrong though. It seems like the issue comes down to inhaling oxygen being, you know, necessary for continued living, while we’re trying to continue crying.
