They are great for putting your front door key in. When I go out drinking I don’t bring any keys other than the front door one and it fits nicely in that pocket. Due to me never having to use that pocket during the night, it never gets lost.

That pocket is there because people expect it to be there. These kinds of vestigial features that used to serve a purpose but are now just for show are very common in fashion, especially for clothing that has been around for a while like jeans have.

Suit jackets are full of these kinds of things. The military jackets that suit jackets were originally based on were designed to be buttoned closed all the way to the top, but it became fashionable to leave the top section of the jacket unbuttoned. That fashion eventually became the designed and intended way to wear it, and that’s why suit jackets have lapels. That lapel buttonhole that people put pins and such in was originally the top buttonhole of the jacket. It also used to be that you would button up the bottom button of the jacket, but then the fashion became leaving it unbuttoned and now suits are designed to leave it unbuttoned even though the button and buttonhole are still there. The cuffs of the jacket are an interesting example. It used to be like the cuffs of a shirt that you could button open or closed, but nobody ever opened them and it was more work to do it that way so they were made permanently closed with the buttons there just for looks with only high quality bespoke suits having functional cuffs, but lately cuffs you can open have come back because people have decided that actual cuffs are a mark of quality.

I still use Sweet ‘N Low as my sweetener for coffee. My local coffee shop doesn’t carry it, so I keep one in that pocket. Also: air pods.

I thought they were coin pockets, and some folding small pocket knives advertise that they fit most coin pockets.

The rivets are for strength not convenience in manufacturing. If you have to carry change or play guitar that little pocket is handy.

Personally I feel uncomfortable without my jeans. The heavier denim material is what I’ve worked, lived and played in for many years.

I’ve heard a few different histories on the birth of denim jeans. Here one: https://www.levistrauss.com/2019/07/04/the-history-of-denim/

It’s where you store your found pocket lint when you’re inside and can’t just throw it on the ground

I always thought it was a coin pocket? I thought the watch went in a jacket.

Did my brain just break?

Guitar picks, cool little rocks/crystals, gum wrappers, a single tater tot, the possibilities are endless. I use mine every day.

You mean the picket for dollar bills?

I’m pretty sure no fashion designer has reconsidered the logic of pants pockets in like 50 years. I’ve spent hours researching why women’s pants pockets are so small or fake to no avail. The only answer is “because it is”. Probably the same deal for the watch pocket. Not that any of my watch pockets are big enough to hold a pocket watch anyway…
