eli5 why do moose/deers run off like they are being startle when shedding their antlers?

They don’t really have sensation in the antlers. There’s no nerves there. So when they do fall off and crash to the ground it can be a surprise. The animal is naturally startled by the sudden loss of weight on their head and the sound they made so the spring off.
