Opioids like heroin are sedatives. They affect the brain with a euphoric feelings then extreme lethargy. So imagine yourself having stayed awake all night then run 1 mile in the snow at a good pace. Now go to a simple room that has the heater racked to about 78 F and listen to a 1950’s radio program detailing Keynesian economic theory and try to take notes. That situational effort of you trying to stay awake is what your asking.

Its you fighting falling asleep. But, you are teetering on the edge of sleep since it is a drug enduced sleep so you are more actively trying to stay awake, only enough to keep standing, barely. And your eyes are closed from the euphoria and dream like state the drug also puts you in. Its called “nodding out” just like when you nod your head up and down when trying to stay awake in “normal” life. Hope that helps.
