Your ears are actually connected to the back if your nose by the Eustachian tube.

Snot can make its way down to the ears through it.

The inside of your ears and the inside of your nose are connected by tubes, which allow the air to circulate in the inner part of your ears.
When you get sick, the inside of your nose gets swollen, including the part where the tube is, and it basically closes the tube up until it’s not swollen anymore.

I think our ears get closed when we’re sick because of the congestion and inflammation in the surrounding areas, reducing the airflow.
