Eli5: why do people use the term Middle class instead of Working class?

Isn’t middle simply confusing?

Are we not working folks and wealthy-ruling folks that generate wealth via assets?

Because being part of the “working class” when you get to choose a job that is tolerable (sometimes even pleasant), and never stress about lacking money for essential stuff (in the worst case you’ll have to limit your travels during your 2 months of holidays) is not the same experience as being “working class” and stressing about your payment being rejected when you go to buy basic food because you’re underpaid.
