Eli5: why do people use the term Middle class instead of Working class?

Question

Isn’t middle simply confusing?

Are we not working folks and wealthy-ruling folks that generate wealth via assets?

I’m working class and proud of it. I live in a working class suburb. All my friends are working class. We couldn’t be happier. We appreciate what we have and what we don’t have only makes us stronger.
