eli5 Why do Romance Scammers often use soldier’s profiles to make victims in social media more like any other occupation?

The intriguing thing is why they choose soldiers rather than other occupation like a scientist, a model, a businessman or a doctor which could theorically attract a wider range of victims?

Because the scammer has to have a plausible explanation for why they can’t meet up in person and why they might randomly “lose” the ability to communicate with the victim. Being a deployed soldier fits the bill.
