eli5 Why do Romance Scammers often use soldier’s profiles to make victims in social media more like any other occupation?

The intriguing thing is why they choose soldiers rather than other occupation like a scientist, a model, a businessman or a doctor which could theorically attract a wider range of victims?

This is just a guess. But I would assume it has to do with attracting victims with low self esteem and self worth. Maybe they are more relatable to the victims and it might seem more realistic then a doctor, who the victim might not believe could really be interested in them, and a veteran is more like to need money then a doctor, which is generally what the scammers are after.

As well, Soldiers are often know to have many if their own issues, and could be seen as a victim who isn’t to blame for their current circumstances, and that might work better to pull on the heart strings of the victims.
