eli5 Why do shower curtains always try to touch you while showering?

Hot air rises out of the top of the shower, drawing cooler air in from the bottom/sides. This pulls the curtain towards you.

It’s caused by [Bernoulli’s principle](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernoulli’s_principle). Basically, since the water coming out of your showerhead is moving pretty fast, it displaces a lot of air as well. This fast moving air/water causes the air in the shower to be lower in pressure than the air outside of the shower so your shower curtain begins to push into the shower.

Basically, shower curtains are perverts. It’s something to do with the formulation of the plastic used in them that causes them to think indecent thoughts in the face of your overwhelming attractiveness, and the life of social isolation that these shower curtains lead leaves them utterly without shame in acting on those thoughts.

Really, it’s probably because the hot air and steam escape from the gap at the top of the shower curtain, creating a low pressure zone in your shower. Nature abhors a vacuum, so the cooler air from outside the shower tries to enter through the space occupied by the shower curtain, pushing it into you. Could also be the Bernoulli principle. I don’t know. I’m not a physicist and haven’t done experiments to check.
A combination of:
* Hot air rises out the top. This draws cool air in through the bottom, pulling the curtain with it.
* Hot air has lower pressure, so the cooler outside air has more pressure, causing the curtain to move towards you.
* Moving air has lower pressure. The spraying water moves the air all around allowing the higher pressure outside air to push towards you, moving the curtain.
* You are attractive which means things will be drawn towards you, especially when naked and shower curtains are known for being unable to control their primitive urges.
Having sufficient weight at the bottom of the curtain is usually enough to deter the movement. A lot of curtains come with magnets in them to make them stick to the tub.
It really grosses me out. I have dreams about it where I’m trying to get into the shower and the gross fucking plastic curtain keeps sticking to my shins.
