Hormones and neuro transmitters that control digestion also make you relaxed and drowsy, also it takes energy to digest food so the process of breaking all the food down into a form where your body can absorb the nutrients requires energy. So a small portion of the calories from your last meal will be helping you to digest your current meal. And if you havent eaten in awhile your body will naturally wanna rest while it breaks down the food into bioavailable forms of nutrients your body can easily absorb and use. Which is why u shouldn’t eat tight before bed cuz it may help u sleep but then once the foods digested all the calories will either go to waste or get stored as extra fat. So yah other factors can affect it also like what kinda foods and how high your metabolism is but those are the main reasons, it’s a lot more complex than I described it but I’m not a nutritionist or anything.
