There is no foreign body to trigger the rubbing, it seemingly has no use to rub the eyes. Why do we do it then?

Rubbing your eyes can feel good when you’re tired because it can stimulate the blood flow to the eye and make you feel more awake. It can also help to remove any dust or debris that might be irritating your eyes.
