eli5: Why do we tend to sleep better when it rains and storms at night?

When we were prey, we knew the predators would not be hunting during the rain. We knew we were safer when it rained.
White noise, temperature change, and pressure change.
Although, a storm with lightning, loud thunder, or hail can easily wake you up.
We sleep more deeply when our heads are cooler than our bodies.
People slept with rectal thermometers to prove this for you.

Is this actually a proven fact or just a personal opinion?
Also because rain produces that shhhhhhh sound and that is what baby in womb heads (blood rushing through arteries and veins).
That is also why when baby is upset you make soft shhhhhh sound with your mouth and lips to calm and soothe it.
