I think that’s a movie myth. I’ve been pregnant twice and not had a single craving. Most women are expected to be hungrier due to the extra calories needed. I’ve found I’m less hungry, I’m pretty sure I eat less than I did before because I feel so full and bloated and can’t eat as much. Every pregnancy is different so some people might have different opinions. Although I’m pretty sure the women who demand things in the middle of the night/absolutely must have xyz no matter how inconvenient for their partner are just being ridiculous. Having said that, she is making a human so get her what she wants.

New York City-based neuropsychologist Sanam Hafeez, Psy.D., chalks some of it up to cultural expectations—we’ve all heard that weird cravings are normal during pregnancy, so we feel OK actually embracing and indulging in them. But, she says hormones can also throw things out of whack. “A lot of it may be that nausea and hormones shut down the usual appetite pathways, leaving room open to peculiar cravings,” she says.
