You should not eat *any* moldy cheese. Only the cheeses that were intentionally made to be moldy. Those strains of mold were intentionally put in the cheese and are safe to eat. If your cheese wasn’t moldy when you bought it but has mold now, throw it out!
We don’t tend to do the same thing for breads (they’d go stale in the time it’d take to grow a worthwhile mold), so all mold on bread is wild mold and may be bad for you.
The mold in moldy cheeses is carefully cultivated and added to the cheese on purpose. Wild molds that that get into food are unsafe to eat because there are some kinds that are toxic.
When mold grows on bread it can spread deep into it so it’s lost. When wild mold gets on the surface of hard cheeses it can’t go deep into the it because the cheese is too dense. Molds need air.
It’s safe to cut the mold off and eat the cheese.
