Humidity is a huge part of how we feel temperature. When the humidity is high, our perspiration does not evaporate well, making us feel warmer.

Air conditioners lower humidity as a side effect of cooling the air. The dryer air they emit allows perspiration to evaporate, further cooling us.

Sometimes they air they emit is too dry causing sinus problems so people occassionally add humidifiers to restore a bit of the humidity.
