Eyes are one of the first things we look at to understand a face. If there’s no eyes then the face isn’t complete and you can’t picture the entire face easily compared to say if the mouth or nose were covered.

Our eyes are very unique. From color of the eyes to the shape and characteristics of the eyes themselves.

It doesn’t; not necessarily. If I showed you a picture of Barack Obama with the eyes blurred you would still recognize him. But, eye shape is one of the key things that people use to recognize faces, so it’s better than nothing if the intention is to just make somebody less recognizable.

I like this question.

But I have often wondered why Wild West Bank robbers covered their nose and mouth with a mask. But super heroes cover their eyes/cheeks.

Are humans really that bad at recognizing faces with half the elements missing?

If someone were to create a picture using a famous persons eyes/hair onto another famous persons mouth and chin (a horizontal split face) I would like to think I could recognize both faces.
