ELI5, why does hot air rise and have low pressure and cool air sink and has high pressure, if energy and temperature do not change the mass of an object?

A matter of density rather than mass. Higher temperature = higher kinetic energy of the atoms in the air = more space between the molecules –> less density and more atomic collisions contributing to pressure.
