Eli5: Why does store bought “movie theater popcorn” not actually taste like movie theater popcorn?

Real movie theatre popcorn uses waaaay more flavour. About a cup of kernals and a 1/4 cup of flavour (mostly salt) goes into a big metal pot that gets squirted with oil when the lid closes.
The machine is a beast,. You have to feed it.
Store bought stuff just doesn’t use enough flavour.
