I am no expert and have no source, but this is a thing in my homeland,so I will explain as it was explained to me. While standing, your body fluids are all connected in a line, so taking huge gulps of water(huge only, small sips can be taken standing or sitting) will stretch your stomach and the pressure due to that will transmit to your joints, causing arthirtis(joint pain, mostly in knee). Sitting does not allow this pressure to transmit due to it being blocked by the position of your butt(something about the pressure dissipating into the chair via your soft tissue of the butt).
Take what you will from this.
