Eli5 why hot and cold feet

Very anecdotal but at night my girlfriend often complains about how cold her feet and I how warm mine, is there a scientific reason for the polar opposite?

Women and men regulate temperatures differently. There’s a threshold, at that threshold the body gives up on warming the extremities because it’s costs a lot of energy, and produces little benefit. This way it can focus on keeping the important stuff toasty. Women have a higher threshold, meaning that they stop warming their feet at a higher internal temperature. So at the same temp, women will get cold feet, whilst men don’t. Added to this is that our sense of temperature is relative. If your girlfriends feet are colder than yours, yours will feel warm to the touch. Or, if their warmer than say the sheets, which might be 20°C, your feet could be 35°, that’s a helluva difference.
