eli5: Why is it recommended by dentists to brush your teeth in the morning and not just only at night?

In the morning I scrape my tongue and use mouthwash so it smells clean (to me)

But I haven’t eaten anything yet. So why brush before breakfast.

When you sleep, your mouth becomes dry. This enables bacteria to thrive. Morning breath is the result of that bacterial activity.

Your night before brush is also never perfect. There are always some food particles left.
