ELi5: Why is it that most mutts are identified only as a mix of two breeds?

Shouldn’t there be more mutts who are an unidentifiable mixture of several to dozens of breeds?

There are, we call them super mutts

But usually when you identify the mix you either use the two breeds of the parents, or the two most prominent identifiable breeds

Breeds really aren’t that important. They can be useful to understand different genetic issues and make sure they hit growth milestones. However that information can be found without knowing the breed just simply by looking at the animal.
