eli5: why is it tougher to mix things in cold water when compared to hot or room temperature water?

As temperature increases the viscosity and surface tension of a liquid decrease, making them more runny, and easier to stir.

Molecules break up / let go of each other easier and quicker with warm/hot water, letting you mix things with ease. I don’t know, I’m an average Joe and that’s what I think, haha.

Recall that temperate is just a measure of the average kinetic energy of the molecules in a substance and that kinetic energy is the energy due to the speed at which an object moves. Therefore, by definition, as something heats up the speed of the molecules is increasing. So, whatever you’re trying to mix is literally just moving faster the hotter it is so it therefore diffuses faster the hotter the water is.
