Eli5 Why is radioactive waste a problem?

Why can’t we dump it into a volcano or yeet it into space? Or for that matter, if it’s still radioactive, doesn’t that mean there is still more juice we could squeeze out of it?

As an an addendium to the excellent answers already given, there’s an idea for storing radioactive waste underground using old oil drills. We’ve seen a naturally occuring nuclear reactor’s remains and the waste from that didn’t move more than a hundred paces from the original site after thousands of years.
