Imagine your computer as an office. You have a big filing cabinet with all of your data, and that’s the hard drive. You have a nice big desk that you put the files from you cabinet on when you want to do work on them, and that’s your computer’s memory. Now because you have a demanding boss who wants you to work on 5+ different projects (applications) at once, you divided your desk up into a bunch of different sections and put all of the files related to one project in a single area and swap between them as you work. You also have a little notepad which you write important little bits of information on as you work and that’s the cache. When compared to the size of your desk/memory, the notepad/cache is tiny, so you only write down the most important stuff, but once in a while, you make a mistake. This causes a massive problem as you constant refer to your notepad and keep using the mangled data you wrote down. This can get even worse, as it’s possible to accidentally manage data by associating it with the wrong project. Either way, the best thing to down is tear out the current page of the notepad (clear the cache) and start with a fresh one that doesn’t have the mangled data in it.
