Eli5: Why is the harvest moon orange but all other full moons are not?

Your premise is faulty…the harvest moon is no more likely to be orange than any other full moon. Full moons can appear orange as they rise because they are being seen through more atmosphere, and sunlight is scattered through the air differently depending on how much air it’s going through. Local factors such as air quality can play a part too. A moon in May or January or any other time of year can be orange too, and the “harvest moon” of September/October need not be.
