ELI5:

* Your bones are surrounded by living goop that can do constant repair work.
* The outsides of your teeth were originally built inside a bunch of goop… But in order to do their job they had to be pushed outwards, into the harsh and unforgiving world.
* Even if your body had repair crews to go out and fix the outside of the teeth, they would tend to be smashed or starved before they could do anything useful.
