Rechargeable batteries have chemistries in a careful balance that allow them to be easily changed between two chemical states(charged and discharge). Most chemical reactions both inside batteries and in the universe at large aren’t so carefully balanced. Most chemical reactions quickly fall to their lowest possible energy state and require significant energy or reacting with other things to free themselves of their strong chemical bonds. In the case of non- rechargeable batteries the final chemical bonds are so strong that if you pump energy into the batteries to reverse the chemical bonds and “/charge the battery, the battery will catch fire long before the process is reversed.
