The main reason is convenience to business partners. It’s not helpful if it’s Monday for you, but Sunday for the people you need to work with, or Friday and Saturday.
Because of this, many of the island nations near the Date Line choose to be on the Eastern side if they do more business with the Americas; and on the Western side if they do more business with an Asian country or Australia.
